The Pulaski County Board of Zoning Appeals and Advisory Plan Commission meetings were heavily attended Monday night by members of the Pulaski County farming community who are opposed to the construction of wind turbines and super turbines in the Pulaski County zoning jurisdiction and in the Francesville zoning jurisdiction.
While Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer and Building Inspector Doug Hoover have not gotten any formal permit requests or filings from wind energy systems to move forward, Origer wants to set up an informational meeting to help gather information on the operation of the turbines and those who live in communities with the structures.
“We’ll have residents of White, Benton and Tipton Counties that have wind already and reach out to residents on both sides of the issue – those who are glad they have it and those who regret that it ever happened. From the sense I’m getting, that’s prevailing sentiment at least in Tipton County. We’ll bring in some elected officials to give their perspectives on benefits, obstacles and downsides that they have seen from the county government perspective. We’ll possibly bring in someone from Purdue Extension who has presented on the issue,” said Origer.
Since the discussions have included Jasper County, the county officials from both Jasper and Pulaski County could partner in this informational meeting and possibly hold it at the West Central School Corporation. A meeting date will be set soon as all parties would need to be contacted. It is the hope that the meeting can be held as soon as possible, preferably before the spring planting season.
The BZA and APC members did not take action on any wind turbine discussion items. The plan commission members hope to gather more information on the topic in order to review the ordinance at their next meeting in April. A date was not set during the meeting.
